Forrester “Rediscovers” Hub and Spoke Data Architecture

Hub and Spoke Data Architecture

Hub and Spoke Data ArchitectureFive years ago, Philip Russom the Director of Research at The Data Warehouse Institute (TDWI) wrote a comprehensive article on the future of Data Integration Architecture that discussed how “Hub and spoke is the preferred architecture for most integration solutions”.

Well, earlier this week “Chloe Green” at Information Age reported that Forrester Research is releasing a new report that states how “adopting a ‘hub and spoke’ architecture for information systems can help organisations maximise the value of their data.”

The Forrester report by principal analyst Brian Hopkins is entitled: “Deliver On Big Data Potential With A Hub-And-Spoke Architecture” and states surprisingly: “We…discovered that firms are implementing a new architecture we label ‘hub-and-spoke’.”  Most interesting.

We are sure that there must be more differences in the two concepts than just hyphens between the words Hub and Spoke. The 2008 Phillip Russom article can be accessed free-of-charge. The 2013 Forrester Research report is $500.
