Accenture Announces Diversity Progress for International Women’s Day

Accenture Announces Diversity Progress for International Women's DayIn June 2017, cloud company, Accenture, announced that they were hoping to achieve full gender-balance. In June they said that they were just under 40% gender equality. Today, for International Women’s Day, Accenture announced  progress on their goal. Women are currently 41% of their global workforce.

This doesn’t sound like a major announcement, but it’s worth noting. CEO Pierre Nanterme, stated, “We believe that the future workforce is an equal one, and our ambition is to be the most inclusive and diverse company in the world.”

Diversity has been a problem in the technology industry, but this mindset is exactly what companies need to follow. Nanterme added, “Our diversity makes us stronger – and we embrace it as a source of innovation, creativity, and competitive differentiation.”

Ellyn Shook, Accenture’s chief leadership and human resources officer stated, “While we are pleased with our progress, attracting and advancing our women continues to be a key priority. Setting goals and making them public allows us to collaborate with our people, clients and communities to accelerate the pace of change. It takes bold leadership and comprehensive action to create a culture of equality where everyone can advance and thrive.”

There are over 170,000 women working for Accenture worldwide. The company had set the goal of 40 percent by  2017, which they accomplished. So there is significant hope for Accenture reaching 50% moving forward. Hopefully more companies can learn from this bold goal!
