Appcelerator Announces Mobile Application Development Solution for Tizen

Appcelerator Tizen

Appcelerator TizenAppcelerator has announced some love for Tizen, the Linux based software system that will support a broad range of computing devices. Specifically, Appcelerator’s Titanium Mobile Application Development Platform will now support Tizen, with the download to Titanium available by the end of March and a common app store by May.

Appcelerator CEO Jeff Haynie said:

Appcelerator is proud to enable developers with the best mobile application development solution for today’s multi-device world. We’re excited to announce support for Tizen to our ecosystem of 1,400 enterprise customers, 425,000 developers and more than 115 million users.

Christopher Croteau, Tizen Board member and Managing Director of Intel’s System Software Division believes that Appcelerator’s move will have great benefits for Tizen:

Support for the Tizen platform from innovative companies such as Appcelerator is important for the growth of the entire ecosystem. Titanium will simplify the mobile development process, allowing developers to rapidly build, test, package and publish applications for Tizen devices.

And what will Appcelerator get out of their investment? Well, Samsung has said that the first smartphones based on Tizen will ship in the second half of 2013, with other devices and manufactures jumping into the Tizen game shortly thereafter. I’m sure Appcelerator wants to grab as much of that market share as early as they can.
