BackupAssist Releases Updated BDR Solution

BackupAssist Releases Updated BDR SolutionBackupAssist has released version 8.4 of its backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solution for download. According to the company, the updated offering touts several new features to improve backup and recovery capabilities. “Protecting your data just keeps on getting easier.”

Version 8.4 offers three key improvements:

Improvements to MultiSite Manager

For those who already use BackupAssist’s MultiSite Manager, version 8.4 brings some welcomed updates. BackupAssist has added email reporting aesthetics, as previously, reporting was very “matter of fact” and displayed only the necessary data without any customization features. The new added graphics feature will enable users to portray their data in a more easy to read format, allowing readers digest important information at a glance. MultiSite Manager reports now resemble other BackupAssist reports that current customers are used to.

Users can now also customize the host name within the MultiSite Manager server, allowing for avoidance of browser warnings when https certificates don’t match the MultiSite Manager server name. MultiSite Manager can now be configured in offline mode as well.

Server 2012 deduplication

Deduplication in Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 is a great way to save disc space and improve performance. BackupAssist 8.4 continues the trend of steadily improving the solution’s ability to leverage and maintain native deduplication in an organization’s own backups. In the new offering, users can easily identify which backups contain deduplicated volumes, allowing an organization to take this into consideration in its backup and disaster recovery strategy.

Improvements to backup space management

BackupAssist 8.4 manages a user’s space efficiently and effectively so the user doesn’t have to, allowing them more time for other high priority endeavors. In this version, if an organization has a backup failure due to insufficient storage space, BackupAssist’s software will allow the backup to automatically start back up after deleting the oldest backups on the drive. Businesses can save even more time in this way, as there is no longer a need to manually clear space in a storage entity to ensure room before backing up.
