Developed to facilitate operations for Sybase administrators, this module makes the backup and restore functions of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) faster and more convenient for users. Additionally, the update is designed so that backup administrators do not need to learn about the ins and outs of Sybase backup techniques or write complicated scripts.

The main features of the Bacula Enterprise Sybase backup module are:

  • Support for full database backup and recovery, cumulative database (incremental) backup and recovery, and database transactions backup and recovery;
  • Database backup levels that are mapped efficiently to Bacula Enterprise backup levels;
  • All backup or restore operations can be simply managed by the backup administrators;
  • The ability to recovery and database backup to an alternate location, and
  • Direct support of Point In Time Recovery (PITR) with database transaction restoration.

The new module is available on 32 and 64-bit Linux platforms supported by Sybase and also supports Sybase ASE 12.5, 15.5, 15.7, and 16.0.

In a press statement, CEO of Bacula Systems, Frank Barker said, “IT organizations are always looking for ways to improve efficiency while minimizing ownership cost. This new, natively integrated module will allow Sybase users to have better RTOs — Recovery Time Objectives — and benefit from more efficient administration of their databases.”

Bacula Enterprise is a scalable subscription-based platform featuring a modular design and built on an open-source foundation. It allows organizations to custom fit for their IT infrastructure. Its licensing model enables users to back up and recover high volumes of data at a lower cost than legacy offerings. Additionally, Bacula’s Enterprise Sybase backup software enables backups and restores through the use of multiple stripes through a configuration setting.

Aristide Caraccio, VP of Sales and Marketing at Bacula Systems also added, “the launch of this new module reaffirms our commitment to become the most flexible single platform industry solution for data backup and recovery. Further significant technology announcements will be coming within the next few days.”
