Datto Upgrades vSIRIS to Combat Ransomware AttacksDatto has announced it has reintroduced its Virtual SIRIS (vSIRIS) data protection software. This software-only version of the Datto SIRIS solution, delivered as a virtual appliance, provides MSPs with the flexibility needed to meet the varied data protection requirements of their small and medium business clients with fully integrated software running on their own hardware.

Our Buyer’s Guide for Backup and Disaster Recovery helps you evaluate the best solution for your use case and features profiles of the leading providers, as well as a category overview of the marketplace.

Datto offers backup and disaster recovery appliances, Software as a Service (SaaS) data protection, and managed networking products. The provider has more than 5,000 managed service providers across the globe that sell its products. Datto also boasts nine data center locations worldwide, including the U.S., Canada, Iceland, the U.K., Germany, Australia, and Singapore. Datto is offered for data on-prem in a physical or virtual server or in the cloud via SaaS applications. The vendor is completely channel-driven and recently released SIRIS 4, a business continuity and disaster recovery solution built for MSPs. In 2020, Datto went public and acquired Gluh.

Designed to support private cloud and virtual deployments, vSIRIS delivers comprehensive, highly scalable software backed by the immutable Datto cloud. The solution is built with the same backup and recovery capabilities as SIRIS, enabling MSPs to protect their clients without the need for Datto hardware. vSIRIS can also be installed remotely and runs as a virtual machine in either VMware ESX or Microsoft Hyper-V. The solution allows users to dynamically add resources to support changing workloads and connects to external storage, including storage area networks (SAN), and network attached storage (NAS) devices.

Key features of vSIRIS include:

  • Reliable Data Protection
  • Flexible Restores
  • Global Cloud Infrastructure
  • Reliable Backups
  • Built-In Ransomware Detection
  • Automated Data and Boot Verification

In a press statement, Radhesh Menon, Chief Product Officer at Datto, said, “ever-increasing security incidents have highlighted the importance of business continuity as the last line of defense for MSPs and their clients. vSIRIS is being reintroduced as a hardware-free option in the SIRIS product line, providing MSPs with the added flexibility they need to meet their clients’ diverse data protection needs onsite, in virtual environments, and in private clouds – all with the same fully integrated, single pane of glass management partners have come to expect from Datto Unified Continuity.”
