NAKIVO Increases Speed of Backup Tool with New Version

NAKIVO recently upgraded their flagship tool, which now offers better backup management, faster backup speeds and reduced backup size.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7 extends image-based, application-aware, and forever-incremental Hyper-V backup to capture an enterprise’s data set in its entirety. The tool also provides continuity for applications and “will transfer only changes to the backup repository after the initial full backup,” NAKIVO reported.

This updated version means backups are compressed to minimize storage space and Hyper-V, VMWare and AWS EC2 backups can all be stored in the same repository. After a Hyper-V backup is complete, copy jobs can be created and copies can be sent offsite or to Azure or AWS clouds. Therefore, a copy will remain safe even if disaster strikes and clears primary backups.

“Files, Exchange objects, and Active Directory objects can be instantly recovered directly from compressed and deduplicated Hyper-V backups. Hyper-V VMs can also be restored back to the same or to a new host in just a few clicks,” the provider reported.

Version 7 can also produce identical copies of Hyper-V VMs on a target server, called VM replicas. These replicas, which are image based, stay powered off and don’t waste resources. Still, they can be turned on at any time and provide disaster recovery in seconds.

The new tool boasts hypervisor support and assistance for Microsoft Hyper-V 2016 and 2012 (R2). Plus, it provides Microsoft Active Directory integration. Version 7 also offers support for the latest VMware vSphere release.

It will also aid the improvement of backup manageability given that it introduces an activities tab. The tab can stop running activities and restart completed ones if necessary. And if you’re ever in a position to delete backups that are no longer needed, this version allows users to filter backups that don’t belong to a certain job or ones that are over a year old; and they can be removed with one click.
