Veritas Receives Certification for Protecting Docker Containers

Enterprise data protection solution provider, Veritas Technologies, recently announced that NetBackup 8.1.2 has been certified to protect Docker container-based workloads. Veritas’ users will be enabled to protect their containerized data and other modern or legacy workloads such as SAP Hana, Hadoop, or MongoDB in virtual, physical, and multi-cloud environments.

The containerization of modern workloads is becoming a standard practice for organizations as a means to develop and deploy applications, efficiently. According to Gartner, “by 2020, more than 50% of global organizations will be running containerized applications in production, up less than 20% today.”  This uptick in deployment has led to questions about data integrity because an increasing number of new containerized applications are created to create and modify persistent data. This change displays the need for mature backup and recovery processes that protect containerized applications and data wherever they are located.

In a press statement, Glen Simon, Product and Solutions Marketing at Veritas said, “with certification for the Docker Enterprise container platform, Veritas once again proves its capabilities to broadly and quickly cover new modern workloads. Customers can protect their critical data across on-premise deployments and in private and public cloud environments and they will benefit from Veritas’ long term strategy to rapidly support any upcoming new workload in the future.”

Now a Docker Certified Container for backup and recovery, Veritas provides three different ways to protect containers with NetBackup in order to enable flexibility. The provider’s new containerized NetBackup client can be implemented as a container and used to protect persistent application data. Certification to the Docker Enterprise platform also allows for cooperative support from both Veritas and Docker for production environments.

In addition to this, Veritas users can protect their physical environments, as well as their virtual and multi-cloud deployments, as NetBackup 8.1.2 supports Docker and other next-gen workloads such as Nutanix, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQLite, and HBase.
