Commvault today launched<\/a> a new venture called Metallic<\/a>, a Software as a a Service division that enables companies to protect on-prem, cloud-based and hybrid file and application data. Commvault<\/a> Metallic is aimed at popular application workloads while also featuring enterprise-grade scalability that, according to the provider “can be up and running in 15 minutes.” Commvault made the announcement at its Commvault GO 2019<\/a> annual user conference, which Solutions Review is covering live<\/a> from the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Denver.<\/p>\n

Metallic Core Backup & Recovery provides the ability to protect with physical and virtual servers on-prem, VMware and in-cloud virtual machines. It also features integrated application support for MS SQL 2008-2017 and scales as needed. Key capabilities include smart scheduling, compression and deduplication. There are a collection of preconfigured and recommended plans built off of some of the industry’s most well-known best practices as well.<\/p>\n

The product is available via three distinct offerings, including Metallic Core Backup & Recovery, Metallic Office 365 Backup & Recovery, and Metallic Endpoint Backup & Recovery. Companies can purchase each on a monthly or annual basis, and the design of the core backup and recovery product allows customers to choose whether to backup using Metallic’s cloud storage or a mix of their own existing on-prem or cloud storage.<\/p>\n

In a statement to Solutions Review, Metallic SVP and GM Robert Kaloustian said of the launch: “Metallic is a\u00a0SaaS-delivered backup and recovery solution unique in that it scales across multiple workloads and allows the customer choice.SaaS is a perfect fit for delivering a data protection and recovery solution. When you put it on top of Azure in the cloud it gives you all of the economics, all of the consistency, all of the flexibility and scalability that a cloud platform does, but it also allows us to come in, and take care of all the care and feeding of the patching, the scale up, the scale down, all the different services that kind of take away from the daily focus on business outcomes.”<\/p>\n
