The 2021 <\/span>Forbes Cloud 100 <\/span><\/i><\/a>recognizes the best private cloud companies in the world. Ranging from small startups to venture-backed cloud behemoths, the fifth annual listing makes mention of popular consumer-facing companies like Stripe, Toast, Squarespace, and others. As part of the selection process for the list, Forbes\u2019 data partner, Bessemer Venture Partners, received hundreds of submissions from the top cloud startups. A panel of judges selected the providers based on four factors: estimated valuation (30 percent), operating metrics (20 percent), people and culture (15 percent), and market leadership (35 percent), which the judging panel then weighed to select, score, and rank the winners.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2021 listing isn\u2019t just made up of consumer technology brands, however. The popular award directory also includes a growing number of enterprise technology and software providers. The editors at Solutions Review have perused the 2021 Forbes Cloud 100 and identified these top data protection firms as warranting extra attention. Additionally, in 2018\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Rubrik<\/span><\/span>\u00a0acquired\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Datos<\/span><\/span>\u00a0IO, a company specializing in data protection of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>NoSQL<\/span><\/span>\u00a0databases.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0The vendor also offers Polaris Radar, a solution\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>provides\u00a0<\/span><\/span>ransomware<\/span><\/span>\u00a0detection and remediation.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Rubrik<\/span><\/span>\u2018<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0solution is recommended to buyers looking to protect highly virtualized on-<\/span><\/span>prem<\/span><\/span>\u00a0environments and hybrid environments that leverage Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(AWS)<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0In late 2020, Rubrik acquired Igneous.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cohesity<\/a>\u00a0is a data management company that manages, protects, and extracts value from enterprise data. The provider\u2019s flagship tool, Cohesity DataProtect, safeguards a wide range of data sources on a single web-scale platform. The solution can be deployed on-premises on qualified platforms in the data center, public cloud, and on the edge. Additionally, the platform utilizes a scale-out architecture that starts with a minimum of three nodes and scales without disruption by adding nodes to the cluster. Through this solution, users have the ability to use backup data directly on the platform without needing to restore it, which allows for the consolidation of other use cases, including dev\/test and analytics.\u00a0 Recently, Cohesity raised $250 million in Series E funding and is currently valued at $3.7 billion.<\/p>\n

OwnBackup<\/a> is a cloud backup firm centered on Salesforce.com Inc.\u2019s platform. The provider\u2019s service offers secure and automated daily backups of Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) data, as well as data comparison and restoration tools for disaster recovery. The company aims to prevent data loss and corruption resulting from human errors, malicious intent, integration errors, and rogue applications. OwnBackup\u2019s data comparison tool enables an administrator to compare data, send a copy to the backup environment, and check it against the most recent valid snapshot. This helps the company identify the Salesforce files in need of recovery to avoid unnecessarily overwriting records with old information. Recently, OwnBackup raised $240 million in Series E funding from Alkeon Capital and seven other investors.<\/p>\n
