Business Intelligence Buyer's Guide

Free Your Data Analysts with Alteryx Analytics 10.0

Alteryx 10.0

In a recent announcement, Alteryx, one of the top-28 BI tools in the space as noted in our 2015 Buyers Matrix Report released Alteryx Analytics version 10.0. The company has been using the slogan “Alteryx 10.0 delivers analytic independence to data analysts.” The news, which broke earlier in September, is one of the company’s biggest announcements to date, and gives users the ability to easily blend data in any format and location without relying on other departments.

According to Alteryx, their main focus with this release is to make their software easier for new users, allowing them to be productive with the solution right out of the box. However, longtime users were not forgotten, as additional enhancements to quicken the data blending process in order to take advantage of advanced analytics without coding are also included.

Bob Laurent Product Marketing Manager at Alteryx notes: “A significant amount of effort and usability testing went into accelerating the time to value for new users, and in this release we’ve simplified the initial interface of Alteryx Designer to get new users focused on the tools needed to access, cleanse, and blend data from their hard drives, corporate data warehouses, cloud applications, and anywhere else where potential insight may be found. Then, with a few clicks they can unlock new tool groups such as spatial and predictive analytics, or additional data blending capabilities, to allow Alteryx to adapt to their growing skill level.”

In addition, version 10.0 has been fitted with an easy way for all analysts, regardless of skill level, to access, validate, and preview data samples at every stage of workflow creation. The Browse Everywhere feature allows users to click on any tool in their analytic workflow in order to see the results of that tool; this can be done without having to insert a Browse tool. Predictive analytic model creation has also been made simpler in this new release with interactive visualizations of model results.

Alteryx’s other focus with the development of version 10.0 was to make the creation, collaboration, sharing, and consumption of analytics across an entire organization even easier than before. In that, Alteryx has included version control for workflow development within the software package, giving analysts the ability to share and collaborate on analytic workflows, no matter where they are. Alteryx Analytics Gallery gets an update too, and now delivers a modern and intuitive cloud analytics experience for loyal users to share analytic apps with company management.

Finally, Alteryx tackled the big data and cloud analytics stacks in this release, providing powerful new options to analysts allowing them to take full advantage of these mediums. The company explains: “In Release 9.5 we debuted in-database tools that push processing steps from Alteryx down into either Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server and utilize the processing power of the database itself to return the results for high-performance analytics. Blending data in this manner eliminates the need to stream data out of the data warehouse for processing, and for customers with very large datasets this can mean a significant performance improvement. In Alteryx Analytics 10.0 we’re expanding support to include Amazon Redshift, Cloudera Impala, Teradata and Spark.”
