Gartner Names Winners of 2017 BI & Analytics Customer Choice Awards

Enterprise technology research firm Gartner, Inc., recently announced the winners of their 2017 Peer Insights Customer Choice Awards for BI and Analytics Platforms. The report marks the latest addition to the company’s expansive list of buyer’s resources, which already includes the popular Magic Quadrant, Critical Capabilities, and Cool Vendors.

According to Gartner, the Customer Choice Awards are a ranking of vendors by “verified end-user professionals” on the company’s Peer Insights website, a peer review site in the mold of G2Crowd, Capterra, and TrustRadius. The awards take into account both the number of end-user reviews, and the overall user ratings.

In a press statement, Gartner’s executive vice president of Products and Services Ken Davis added: “In interpreting reviews, it’s difficult for IT professionals to balance the number of reviews for a company versus a company’s overall rating. The Gartner Peer Insights Customer Choice Awards are designed to help end users navigate these issues to make better purchase decisions. We work hard to ensure that all of the reviews are submitted by an IT professional or business user who has had experience purchasing, implementing and/or using the enterprise solution they are reviewing — free from conflicts of interest.”

Awards were given based on several criteria. The vendor must have at least 50 published reviews in the market guide during the submission period and must pass Gartner’s validation, conflict of interest and moderation process. Additionally, any solution provider must have a bare minimum of one tool designated by Gartner’s analysts as relevant in the marketplace.

Top Performers

Alteryx was named the overall winner, earning gold status among reviewers. Tableau was runner-up, securing silver status, while Domo earned the bronze. There’s really no surprise here, as all three providers are mainstays in the BI and analytics marketplace. However, it is noteworthy that Gartner failed to include Alteryx and Domo as top providers in its February Magic Quadrant report. Both vendors were included only among the niche players in this space.

Honorable Mentions

Honorable mentions for this year’s user reviews are headlined by mega-provider Microsoft, with inclusion from household names Sisense, Qlik, and IBM. Microsoft and Qlik were named leaders in the Magic Quadrant earlier this year, so it’s somewhat curious that Gartner’s research methodology doesn’t match up with user sentiment.

We encourage you to peruse Gartner’s complete listing of Peer Insights vendor and product reviews.
