Microsoft Closes on Acquisition of Revolution Analytics

Today, in Microsoft‘s Machine Learning blog, they announced the closing on their acquisition of Revolution Analytics, making the merger official. The buyout, which was announced back in January is now complete, and Revolution Analytics is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft.

The “R” programming language, which is widely used for computing and predictive analytics is deployed by more than 2 million people around the world. Revolution Analytics had made R enterprise-ready with speed and scalability for large data warehouses and Hadoop environments. In the near term, Microsoft plans to build R and Revolution’s technology into their own data platform, so companies, developers and data scientists can use it across on-premise, hybrid cloud and Azure public cloud domains.

Microsoft also has the intention of leveraging the open source nature of R, which is fed by an active and passionate community. The tech giant also plans to support and amplify Revolution’s open source projects in the future. Further, Microsoft will continue along the path of Revolution in educating aspiring developers and data scientists in learning R.

Microsoft will dig deeper into their plans for integrating Revolution analytics into their current mix at Build 2015 and Ignite.
