Starburst recently announced an update<\/a> to Starburst Galaxy, the company’s cross-cloud data analytics solution. Starburst broke the news at AWS re:Invent. First released in February 2021, the Starburst Galaxy update now allows customers to query data across cloud platforms without sacrificing speed or access. Starburst Galaxy is the cloud-native and fully managed service of Starburst\u2019s massively parallel processing (MPP), high-performance query engine.<\/p>\n

Starburst Data offers a data access and analytics tool that is based on Presto. it provides fast and interactive enterprise-ready distribution, consisting of additional tooling and configurations that enable data analysts to run queries against various data sources ranging in size from gigabytes to petabytes. The solution also includes a cost-based query optimizer which improves Presto query performance, by over an order of magnitude in many cases.<\/p>\n

Starburst Galaxy allows users to query a variety of data sources, or join data across multiple data sources through a single query. Starburst users can easily sign-up through AWS Marketplace, connect to Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) buckets, their Glue meta store and MySQL\/PostgreSQL RDS.<\/p>\n

In a media statement on the news, Starburst co-founder and CEO Justin Borgman said: “Many vendors make their products available in each of the major cloud providers and refer to them as \u2018multi-cloud.\u2019\u00a0 Starburst is taking the industry to a new frontier, as the first to offer \u201ccross-cloud\u201d analytics, enabling SQL joins across tables living in different clouds.
