Gartner Inc. Says BPM is Critical for Business Transformation Success

In such a dynamic marketplace, business transformation leaders are feeling the pressure to remain competitive, while decreasing costs and increasing productivity by improving business processes. These business leaders are required to constantly change business operations in order to activate new business models – but some are struggling to keep up.

In order to defeat these challenges, many organizations are looking to the benefits that Business Process Management (BPM) software can provide, such as enhanced operational efficiency, improved customer service and an increased service innovation.

Gartner defines BPM as a discipline that uses various methods to discover, model, analyze, measure, improve, and optimize business processes.  A business process coordinates the behavior of people, systems, information, and things to produce business outcomes in support of a business strategy. Processes can be structured and repeatable or unstructured and variable.

BPM software is a technology solution which enables businesses to design, analyze, execute, monitor and optimize important processes. It is a valuable automation tool for enterprises to generate a competitive advantage through cost reduction, process excellence, and continuous process improvement. It also helps managers and CEO’s measure, respond and control all operational processes and apply IT solutions directly to them.

“Success means becoming an adaptive organization, and few leaders recognize that business process management can help them achieve the adaptability they seek,” said Samantha Searle, senior research analyst at Gartner.

According to Gartner, business transformation, increasingly triggered by the impact of emerging technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart machines, requires a “fail fast” culture, and a means of rapidly prototyping new ideas.

“BPM can deliver this level of agility to business operations in combination with other disciplines, such as enterprise architecture, analytics, project and portfolio management, and organizational change. Organizations adopting BPM are much more likely to achieve their desired business outcomes,” added Searle.

BPM solutions help coordinate the improvement of staff productivity by automating the daily workforce tasks they would be doing manually if a BPM system wasn’t in place. By implementing a BPM solution into your organization, it helps to put into effect quick responses to challenges and opportunities, at the same time helping business leaders make the right decisions for overall company growth.

BPM, more often than not, incorporates Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma and uses them in conjunction with BPM software to optimize business processes. BPM can act as the catalyst to accelerate the application of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and can increase organizational efficiency and profitability by enhancing business processes with three important elements – agility, visibility and efficiency.
