Gartner Inc. is one of the biggest voices in enterprise technology \u2013 they\u2019re generally the first source consulted when it comes to evaluating enterprise IT solutions; Intelligent Business Process Management Suites (iBPMS) solutions are no exception.<\/p>\n

But while Gartner\u2019s iBPMS Magic Quadrant reports\u00a0are a great way to find out who the top enterprise contenders are, they don\u2019t give particularly in-depth analyses behind what each solution offers and how they perform across different industries and environments.<\/p>\n

There are a few other Gartner resources out there that act as companions to the\u00a0Magic Quadrant<\/em>, including Gartner\u2019s\u00a0Critical Capabilities<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Cool Vendors<\/em>\u00a0reports. Both studies\u00a0are newer additions to Gartner\u2019s repertoire of enterprise vendor selection resources, and each offer a more nuanced look at where each of the notable vendors and their tools excel and where some fall short of viability.<\/p>\n

While the\u00a0Magic Quadrant<\/em>\u00a0is great for identifying which vendor is on top in terms of market share and generalized capabilities,\u00a0Critical Capabilities<\/em>\u00a0gives a more definitive take on who\u2019s on top consistently and why they are there.<\/p>\n

Gartner defines\u00a0Critical capabilities<\/em>\u00a0as \u201cattributes that differentiate products\/services in a class in terms of their quality and performance.\u201d\u00a0Gartner rates each vendor\u2019s product or service on a five-point (five points being best) scale in terms of how well it delivers each capability.\u00a0Critical Capabilities<\/em>\u00a0includes comparison graphs for each use case, along with in-depth descriptions of each solution based on the various points of comparison.<\/p>\n

Cool Vendors<\/em>\u00a0is defined as research that can \u201chelp clients stay ahead of the IT technology curve, and make better strategic decisions about technology and services.\u201d While much more basic\u00a0in nature and without any fancy graphs, diagrams or in-depth market jargon, the\u00a0Cool Vendors<\/em>\u00a0reports bask in their simplicity, providing the names and descriptions of each highlighted solution provider with a \u201cWhy Cool?\u201d conclusion \u2013 allowing business professionals to discover up-and-coming tools and\u00a0get in the ground floor.<\/p>\n

Together, these tools can cut a lot of time and effort out of the decision-making process, allowing buyers to skip tedious and time-consuming internet searches and research on BPM tools<\/a> that are unlikely to meet organizational needs.<\/p>\n
