Azure Services Can Now Run on AWS and Google Cloud with Azure Arc
Microsoft recently announced their hybrid cloud-enabling service Azure Arc, allowing users to run Azure services on other cloud environments (include AWS and Google Cloud) and manage them through Azure. Through Azure Arc, users will be able to manage resources on Windows and Linux servers, Kubernetes, and other on-premise, multicloud, and edge deployments. Azure Arc is currently available in preview, free to use for Azure users.
Azure Arc simplifies the process of creating a distributed environment by giving users the power to manage Kubernetes applications and Azure data services at scale on external environments. Their Kubernetes integration allow users to develop containerized applications which can be deployed across an enterprise’s infrastructure. Microsoft is also extending their Azure Stack portfolio with the addition of Azure Stack Edge, a cloud managed AI-enabled edge appliance.
“We are excited to see Microsoft bringing Azure data services and management to any infrastructure”, said Erik Vogel, Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Vice President for Customer Success, Hybrid Cloud Software. “Through our partnership with Microsoft we hope to deliver a true as a Service experience across environments to help manage both the databases and the underlying infrastructure, and offer a consistent experience across on-premises and the cloud.”
This is the latest in Microsoft’s push for services to help customers created a fully-realized hybrid cloud deployment — an initiative they’ve been pursuing since Azure rolled out. Microsoft launched Azure Stack in 2017 to enable users to run cloud-based applications and services in environments outside Azure. Amazon and Google provide their own hybrid cloud services, but Microsoft have continuously been at the forefront of hybrid cloud among the top cloud vendors.
