COVID-19 Accelerated Cloud Transformation for 43 Percent of Businesses
According to a study recently released by Kong, 43 percent of businesses accelerated their cloud transformation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This information comes from the 2021 Digital Innovation Benchmark report, which surveyed 400 IT leaders in the U.S. and Europe on digital transformation efforts following COVID-19. The report found how IT leaders use modern software architectures and emerging technologies to enable business innovation.
Kong found that just over half of IT leaders believe that their business would go under or be acquired by 2024 if they lag in digital innovation. Unfortunately, 84 percent predicted that this would happen within six years. Other outcomes IT leaders see happening as a result of poor digital transformation include a missed bonus, losing a promotion, or even being fired.
Following COVID-19, 43 percent of leaders stated in the report that the pandemic has accelerated their transition to the cloud. 79 percent expect that their IT or developer budgets will increase in the 12 months. Microservices are another way businesses are driving innovation, with 87 percent believing that microservices are the future.
In a blog post centered around the report, Kong stated: “There’s the fairly obvious underlying cause to some of these survey results: the global COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for business. In fact, the majority (89%) of technology leaders believe that it’s critical to create new digital experiences to overcome COVID-19 business challenges. The bigger picture here though is that businesses need to be able to weather any storm and keep innovating because those who have already crossed the technology chasm will be poised to take advantage of those opportunities.”
