The global cloud computing market is reportedly expected to grow to $6.79 billion over the next year in the healthcare vertical, specifically due to a higher demand for faster response times.

According to a new report from Transparency Market Research, cloud computing in healthcare has been growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of just over 21 percent since 2012. The market was valued at about $1.82 billion in 2011, medgadget.com reported.

Cloud computing is being leveraged in almost all industries as it allows organizations to become more productive and efficient. Plus, it enables a business to use high-end software without emptying its pockets, and creates a means for scaling. All of those reasons add up to why cloud computing is gaining traction in the healthcare industry.

Most customers are predicted to prefer Platform-as-a-Service or PaaS cloud computing, according to the report, because it provides the most advantages in the healthcare space. PaaS holds rapid deployment speeds along with simple applications, and it can be utilized on a larger scale than others.

The report also provides details around the numbers of public private, and hyrid cloud services in the space and how they affect the cloud computing vertical in the healthcare industry.

North America dominated the market in 2011, and the report says that won’t change. ClearDATA, Microsoft, CareCloud, Oracle, IBM, and Merge Healthcare are just some of the key players in the space, which is very competitive as none of the players hold a share over 10 percent.
