Four Trends Shaping the Future of Public Cloud Solutions

We listed the four trends that are shaping the future of public cloud solutions, according to research by Gartner, Inc.

Public cloud solutions have steadily gained traction in the business world as companies and users realize the power of the cloud. Cloud services deliver business-grade solutions that can be accessed from anywhere and allow your staff to coordinate and execute all kinds of essential tasks. While they had been growing in popularity in previous years thanks to new solutions by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, the recent shift to remote work and work-from-anywhere programs has boosted cloud adoption across the globe.

Providers are taking note of the recent push towards cloud solutions and are continuing to improve their services with new features and initiatives to draw in new users. Due to these provider-driven innovations as well as increasing demands from users, certain trends affect the way public cloud continues to develop. Gartner, Inc. explored four trends that are shaping the future of public cloud solutions, and we discussed them below.

Four Trends Shaping the Future of Public Cloud Solutions

Cloud Ubiquity

While it began as a tool for specialized use, the cloud quickly expanded to cover a wide variety of tasks and services. Ubiquity is a key factor of modern cloud adoption, as businesses want to ensure that the cloud can cover everything they set out to accomplish. Some companies still only migrate certain workloads over, but an increasing number of businesses are bringing the entirety of their business-critical tasks into the cloud. Cloud providers deliver the tools that make this possible, including new services all the time that address different new use cases and industries.

Regional Cloud Ecosystems

As cloud solutions can be accessed from anywhere, it’s important for cloud providers to implement the right regulations for each region they plan to serve. Now that the cloud is beginning to really take hold of businesses everywhere, it falls on cloud providers to ensure that they pay attention to local regulations when setting up servers for new areas. Increasing government regulations across the globe are driving vendors to fit their cloud solutions for each new region they serve.

Sustainability and “Carbon-Intelligent” Cloud

Climate change remains a widely-discussed topic in the tech industry, and the cloud’s effect on the environment is certainly a concern for providers. It has thus fallen on cloud vendors to tailor their efforts towards reducing the impact their solutions have on the environment, including more aggressive goals for carbon neutrality and sustainability. Addressing these concerns has created many new challenges for cloud industry leaders, forcing them to reevaluate their future public cloud development plans.

CIPS Providers’ Automated Programmable Infrastructure

Cloud infrastructure and platform services (CIPS) providers are looking towards artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions to help reduce operational burdens for their staff. As Gartner’s Senior Research Director Henrique Cessi puts it: “Modern IT infrastructure, whether deployed in the data center or consumed in the public cloud, requires less manual intervention and routine administration than its legacy equivalents.”
