Hewlett-Packard Co. announced the release of a new OpenStack-based private cloud solution in a press release yesterday. HP’s new product, Helion Stack, is “the industry’s first pre-tested, pre-tuned, and pre-figured private cloud solution based on OpenStack technology,” according to an HP blog post.
Helion Stack is intended to allow enterprises to quickly deploy a private cloud by preconfiguring the cloud based on OpenStack and Cloud Foundry technologies.
This kind of ‘cloud in a box’ solution can allow businesses to skip the costly and time-consuming deployment of a private cloud solution. IT departments often lack the resources and infrastructure to quickly deploy a private cloud, and taking the often necessary multi-language approach complicates matters further. HP hopes to ease those growing pains with Helion Stack.
“The demand from lines of business and dev/test teams for fast delivery of flexible compute resources is putting many IT departments under intense pressure,” said Owen Rogers, senior analyst, Digital Economics, 451 Research. “While IT departments understand these needs, they don’t always have the time, resources, infrastructure, or skills needed to meet demand. HP Helion Rack can help overcome the cloud and OpenStack software skills barrier that delays many companies private cloud deployment.”
HP promises a “complete private cloud” in Helion Stack, with integrated IaaS and PaaS capabilities.
