The Big Box Shop for all your Cloud Needs: IBM Cloud Marketplace

The Big Box Shop for all your Cloud Needs IBM Cloud Marketplace

Think of it as the big box shop for all your cloud needs. And it is fitting it is being provided by one of the bigger players in the IT space. IBM’s announcement of IBM Cloud Marketplace initially drew analogies to the Apple App Store and Salesforce.com’s AppExchange, but as Doug Henschen reports it is stocked with “mobile apps, software-as-a-service (SaaS) apps, platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offerings, and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings all into one spot where they are ‘easy to locate, easy to understand, easy to order, easy to try out, and easy to purchase,’ according to LeBlanc.”

The marketplace will start by offering six difference categories of services; mobile, analytics, computing infrastructure, a product-development environment, and services for gaming companies, and for startup businesses born on the Web. These category offerings will hit on all aspects of an organization with services for the “biz” types, “dev” types and “ops” types with SaaS, PaaS and IaaS capabilities.

Henschen wraps up his piece with additional IBM additions. “IBM also added new DevOps, data, and mobility services to its BlueMixportfolio on Monday. It also launched a BlueMix Garage development center in San Francisco. It’s the first of many centers where IBM plans to work hand-in-hand with entrepreneurs and startups on next-generation, cloud-based agile applications.”
