IBM Updates Cloud Portfolio with New Hybrid Cloud Capabilities

IBM is updating its cloud portfolio with new capabilities to help clients move to a hybrid cloud environment, according to a press release on the company’s website. The new solutions include containerized software across IBM IT Infrastructure and advancements in data storage for containers. With these new capabilities, IBM improves its ability to unify data recovery, retention, and reuse and also protect critical data workloads in hybrid cloud environments.

The vendor supports over 1,000 enterprise clients and over 16,000 production clusters using Kubernetes, managing cloud-native resources at an unparalleled scale. IBM’s recent acquisition of Red Hat allows them to take advantage of Red Hat Open Sight, making it easier for users to connect and migrate Red Hat OpenShift workloads to the public cloud.

The new hybrid cloud capabilities and use cases include the ability to infuse AI throughout the business and consolidate databases with IBM Cloud Pak for Data. Users will also be able to connect cloud-native applications to existing workloads with IBM Cloud Pak for Integration and enable faster cloud-native development with integrated runtimes with IBM Cloud Pak for Applications. Finally, IBM offers increased visibility, automation, and governance across the hybrid multi-cloud with IBM Cloud Pak for Multi-Cloud Management.

In the company’s press release, IBM Systems’ Senior Vice President Tom Rosamilia stated: “The global pandemic and ensuing economic disruption have amplified the need for speed and flexibility and accelerated plans for digital transformation. Our clients are increasing their investments in AI and the cloud.
