Is it Time For Your Small Business to Move to the Cloud?

The typical image of a small business owner is that of the Rockwellian mom and pop shop on Main Street, Small Town America. While that’s a nice, idyllic image to hold on to, the truth is that many small businesses are looking to technology to modernize their infrastructure. Part of this digital transformation includes a conversation that many SMBs continue to kick down the road; “Is it time for us to move to the cloud?”.

To be one-hundred honest, I can’t provide an answer to that question. That’s something you’ll need to decide for yourself. I don’t know you or your business… at all. I can, however, offer up some pointers and considerations that might make for less daunting question. Take a look below!

Improved Collaboration

Moving to the cloud makes collaboration a hell of a lot easier, enabling simple document sharing, real-time editing, and more. Because many cloud applications are browser based, employees won’t need to learn and master many different application interfaces, wait for email attachments to download, or translate documents from one format to another format.

Data is Automatically Backed Up

Take it from someone who spends a good chunk of the day writing articles; it’s pretty damn nice to know that the last three hours of your day aren’t lost forever because you forgot to hit ‘save’. Many small businesses understand how important it is to back up critical company data. Through the cloud, that information is automatically backed up, giving you one less thing to worry about.

The Cloud Can Be Very Cost Efficient

Many cloud providers offer pay-per-use plans that can scale according to your small business’ needs. Since you won’t need to buy any additional hardware and software, you’ll eventually save on capital expenses. Furthermore, by moving some of your business’ infrastructure to the cloud, your small business won’t need to hire any additional IT staff for maintenance.

Company Data from Anywhere and Anytime

With the increase of BYOD policies in small businesses, it’s becoming increasingly necessary to access company data from across platforms. By moving to the cloud, you and your employees will be able to access applications and data from anywhere, anytime.
