LogicMonitor: 87 Percent of Companies Will Increase Cloud Usage Thanks to COVID-19

According to research recently released by LogicMonitor, 87 percent of companies will increase their cloud usage after the COVID-19 pandemic has ended. This information comes from the Cloud 2025: The Future of Workloads in a Cloud-First, Post-COVID-19 World report, based on a survey of 500 IT decision makers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. LogicMonitor found that the long-term effects of the coronavirus pandemic will accelerate corporate transitioning onto the cloud.

Our MSP Buyer’s Guide contains profiles on the top cloud managed service providers for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, as well as questions you should ask vendors and yourself before buying. We also offer an MSP Vendor Map that outlines those vendors in a Venn diagram to make it easy for you to select potential providers.

LogicMonitor’s research found that 87 percent of companies will increase their rate of cloud migration post-COVID-19. Respondents answered that they would have fewer workloads on-premise compared to on the cloud by 2025, with only 22 percent of workloads on-premise post-pandemic compared to 35 percent pre-pandemic. By contrast, public and private cloud workloads will increase by five percent and hybrid cloud workloads will increase by three percent in the same amount of time.

In addition to this, 74 percent of companies will have at least 95 percent of their workloads on the cloud within five years. This aligns with global predictions as well, as respondents from all countries believed that within three to five years, almost all of their workloads would be cloud-based. Based on the state of cloud across the world, the transition to a cloud-first or cloud-only approach was inevitable, but as the LogicMonitor report shows, the sudden impact of COVID-19 is seemingly forcing companies to adopt a cloud-focused business model.

In the company’s press release, LogicMonitor’s Chief Product Officer stated: “Fast forward to today, and the COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the importance of the cloud in large and small enterprises as a vital asset to business operations. It is clear that organizations are hastening their cloud migration during the crisis, as the cloud is enabling them to operate remotely while serving as the foundation for digital transformation and ongoing innovation.”
