Microsoft Announces New One-Stop-Shop Azure App Service

Microsoft announced a new all-in-one developer tool, Azure App Service, in a blog post released Tuesday morning. The new cloud-based service gives developers a one-stop-shop for building web and mobile apps, provides tools for automating business processes on cloud platforms, and gives a new service for building application program interfaces (APIs).

Azure App Service is, in large part, a bundling of existing Azure services. Azure Websites, Mobile Services, and Biztalk services have all been integrated as components of the new App Service. Azure Websites will now be known as Web Apps andMobile Services will be called Mobile Apps.

Existing Azure websites will be migrated to Web apps, with no change in price or service and users will now be able to utilize all of App Service, at no extra cost.

Biztalk will be integrated into the brand new Logic Apps, which allows users to automate processes across APIs. Microsoft claims that configuring workflows in Logic Apps is “super easy”, and “takes only a minute or so.” Logic Apps launches with an impressive array of built-in connectors that users can use to construct and automate workflows, including Dropbox, Oracle, Twitter, SAP, Salesforce, and more.

The new API Apps makes up the fourth component of App Service. API Apps support will enable users to create, consume and call APIs, whether they are built App Service or not. Users can optionally integrate those APIs with Logic Apps.
