Rackspace Offers Free Cloud Hosting Resources for COVID-19 Responders

Rackspace is offering free OpenStack public cloud hosting resources for organizations participating in COVID-19 relief efforts, according to a page on the company’s website. The vendor has pledged to offer $10 million in cloud hosting resources to COVID-19 responders for free over the next six months to help them combat the virus.

Rackspace is a cloud security solutions vendor and managed cloud services provider for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. They offer management capabilities for public, private, hybrid, and multicloud deployments depending on the customer’s needs and current cloud solutions. While Rackspace has been around since 1999, they only began offering managed cloud services in 2015; despite this, Gartner positioned them as a Leader in their 2019 Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure Professional and Managed Services, Worldwide.

The company is restricting access to its free OpenStack cloud hosting resources to companies that are fighting the spread of COVID-19 and require a massive amount of computing resources. This includes pharmaceutical and scientific research, healthcare, educational, and non-profit organizations. Rackspace is also providing six months of free access to Microsoft Teams to its current customers, allowing users to stay in contact with fellow employees and partners.
