Red Hat Unveils OpenShift Update

On Tuesday, Red Hat unveiled an update to its Red Hat JBoss Fuse-based integration service on Red Hat OpenShift.

According to a release, the updates were prompted by the expansion of the IoT, cloud-based SaaS systems, and new data streams, which ultimately adds stress to organizations looking to deliver next-gen products and services.

“Traditional centralized, monolithic ESB-style integration approaches are often ill-suited to support the business in responding to this pressure,” according to the release.

Red Hat believes that integration is best suited as part of a business’ application strategy as a whole and says that an integration approach requires the following three capabilities:

• Distributed integration
• Containers
• API-based architecture

Apache Camel-based distributed integration capabilities of JBoss Fuse were deployed on the docker, and Kubernetes-based container platform of Red Hat OpenShift. This gives developers something to aid in the building and integrating of both traditional and microservices-based apps.

JBoss Fuse 6.3 integration services for Red Hat OpenShift was created with the goal of making the transition for customers looking to adopt containerized infrastructure for existing workloads easier. The new release also adds support for Spring Boot and “enables the development of custom-fit containerized applications using the latest upstream release of Apache Camel 2.18.”

“The JBoss Fuse integration services release is aligned with JBoss Fuse 6.3, providing a path for customers looking to transition existing Apache Karaf-based JBoss Fuse applications to a cloud-based architecture and maintain a consistent hybrid integration platform across their enterprise,” according to the release.

Clients can also use an API-first approach to integration by producing and connecting APIs with Apache Camel-based integration microservices and “managing those APIs using Red Hat 3scale API Management Platform.”

“We introduced new integration services for OpenShift aimed at helping developers meet the need for a more agile approach to connecting applications, data, and devices across hybrid cloud environments,” Daniel Thompson from Red Hat told Solutions Review via email.

He went on to say, “We see the combination of containers, distributed integration, and API-based architecture as three critical elements of agile integration, and an important step for organizations to take in support of digital transformation initiatives.”
