SAP and Microsoft Announce New Partnership at Sapphire Now Event

Today, at Sapphire Now, SAP‘s global business technology event in Orlando, Florida, CEOs, Satya Nadella of Microsoft and Bill McDermott of SAP, announced they are combining forces. The new partnership will allow SAP customers to run HANA, the company’s in-memory database product on Microsoft’s Azure cloud.

“At Microsoft, we are focused on empowering organizations to advance their digital transformations,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft. “Together with SAP, we are bringing new levels of integrations between our products that provide businesses with enhanced collaboration tools, new insights from data and a hyper-scale cloud to grow and seize new opportunities ahead.”

According Microsoft’s press release, SAP’s Hana data analysis tools and S/4 Hana applications will be able to run on Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service by late 2016.The partnership will let Microsoft customers run SAP software without installing it on their own servers.

“We believe the IT industry will be shaped by breakthrough partnerships that unlock new productivity for customers beyond the boundaries of traditional platforms and applications,” said McDermott. “SAP and Microsoft are working together to create an end-user experience built on unprecedented insight, convenience and agility. The certification of Microsoft Azure infrastructure services for SAP HANA along with the new integration between Microsoft Office 365 and cloud solutions from SAP are emblematic of this major paradigm shift for the enterprise.”

With cloud computing making access to tools and features quicker by the day, it’s safe to say that partnerships like this will become more prevalent in the years to come. Just earlier this month on May 5th, SAP and Apple announced their new partnership that will allow apple users to integrate a new SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK for iOS, that will provide businesses, designers and developers the ability to build their own iOS apps for iPhone and iPad. SAP’s Hana is certainly making many friends in the business world, while securing a place in the hearts of designers, developers and Microsoft users everywhere.
