It\u2019s also important to note that Microsoft clearly wants more developers using its tools and platform. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">Deis produces open-source software, which makes it easier for users to work with Kubernetes. The deal also cements one of the goals of the organization, which is to \u201censure that open-source technologies remain a key element of the Redmond tech giant\u2019s cloud strategy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">Some experts say that the deal will lead to additional mergers and acquisitions along with venture capital investments for startups that are linked to cloud container platforms.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">However, M&amp;A specialist Nat Burgess, founder of Seattle-based technology M&amp;A firm TechStrat, has a different logic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">\u201cMicrosoft\u2019s strategy can\u2019t be to buy everyone who gets traction in container tech,\u201d Burgess told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2017\/experts-split-on-whether-microsoft-deis-acquisition-is-a-sign-of-deals-to-come-in-the-cloud-container-platform-world\/\" target=\"_blank\">GeekWire<\/a>. \u201cWe may see competitors respond with a deal or two, but the Deis acquisition does not foreshadow a wave of consolidation. However, the investments in SaaS and cloud building blocks, open source and otherwise, will continue to accelerate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">Microsoft will, of course, benefit from this deal. Tola Capital\u2019s Managing Direcor Sheila Gulati told GeekWire that, \u201cUnlike the other public clouds, Microsoft is taking an ecumenical approach to container orchestration.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">She went on to say that \u201cthey support all the major orchestration options and the Deis acquisition is a doubling down on Azure\u2019s Kubernetes support.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;margin: 0in 0in 9.75pt 0in\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica','sans-serif';color: #231f1e\">Microsoft acquired Deis from EngineYard, who first acquired the cloud company back in 2015 as part of its acquisition of OpDemand.
