According to a survey recently performed<\/a> by Insight Avenue and commissioned by SUSE, 45 percent of companies suffer from a lack of hybrid cloud skills. This figure comes from the How Today\u2019s IT Leaders are Daring to be Different<\/em><\/a> research report, which conducted 2000 interviews with IT leaders and application developers in businesses with at least 250 employees. The survey examined how IT professionals and decision makers are changing their digital transformation efforts as technology needs and capabilities change.<\/p>\n

SUSE and Insight Avenue found that hybrid cloud adoption has become more commonplace in the business sector. In 2017, the company found that two-thirds of organizations was planning to increase its hybrid cloud usage in the coming years. Now, in 2020, SUSE discovered that 32 percent of respondents want to increase hybrid cloud use; 64 percent stated that their hybrid cloud usage would stay the same. This indicates that on the whole, businesses are already very comfortable with the hybrid cloud solutions in their infrastructure.<\/p>\n

However, that makes the company’s findings on the hybrid cloud skills gap all the more troubling. When asking respondents about areas where lack of skills in the market has made it difficult to advance, hybrid cloud was listed by 45 percent of respondents. From this result, we can infer that while hybrid cloud has become a standard for many organizations, figuring out how to run it effectively isn’t as simple. However, 97 percent of all respondents stated that enhancing hybrid cloud skills and experience was at least “quite important,” indicating that IT leaders are aware of this problem and are looking to fix it.<\/p>\n

In the company’s official blog post on the report, SUSE’s CEO Melissa Di Donato said: “As an IT industry leader, I fully understand the unique responsibilities, challenges, and pressure that come with the job. IT decision-makers must quickly deploy mission-critical applications, while ensuring they are secure and always available. They\u2019re tasked with navigating sprawling, patchwork infrastructures, despite budget and resource constraints. Especially during a global crisis, it\u2019s now more important than ever for IT leaders to focus their efforts on ensuring the technology they deploy drives specific and tangible business outcomes.”<\/p>\n
