Cisco is launching<\/a> the Catalyst 8000 Edge Platform, a new WAN edge platform to help companies achieve secure cloud adoption, according to a press release on the company’s website. The vendor is introducing a new family of networking hardware that provides businesses with flexible options for secure cloud connectivity and visibility to applications across the cloud, the data center, and the edge.<\/p>\n

The vendor’s new high-performance SD-WAN solution, the Catalyst 8500 Series Edge Platform, features integration with 40G and 100G Ethernet ports in a compact single rack unit form factor. The solution is powered by Cisco’s Quantum Flow Processor to provide high performance, pervasive security, and rich network services.<\/p>\n

The Catalyst 8300 Series Edge Platform handles edge connectivity and branch sites, providing up to four times better SD-WAN service performance than Cisco’s other Integrated Services Routers. The Catalyst 8000V Edge Software, which will be available in December, delivers all of the same capabilities in software form. Finally, the Cisco Catalyst cellular Gateway helps customers deploy wireless WAN connectivity without changing existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n

In the company’s official press release, Cisco’s Vice President of Product Management for the Intent-Based Networking Group JL Valentine stated: \u201cWith the proliferation of applications, workloads and services becoming more distributed across the edge-cloud continuum, organizations are facing new realities at the WAN edge. In building secure multi-cloud access architectures, IT organizations need the agility to change course and scale quickly along with the needs of the business. The Cisco Catalyst 8000 Edge Platform bridges the WAN edge and the cloud edge, providing secure, high-performance connectivity for distributed users to any cloud while delivering IT visibility and business agility.\u201d<\/p>\n
