For small and midsize businesses \u00a0(SMBs) the damages can be even worse, Kaspersky\u2019s report found that SMBs reported average damages of $26,000 from breaches to physical infrastructure, but costs increased to nearly $60,000\u2014a <strong>130 percent<\/strong> jump\u2014 when virtualized infrastructure was breached.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/identity-management\/files\/2015\/08\/kaspersky1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-656 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/identity-management\/files\/2015\/08\/kaspersky1-300x124.jpg\" alt=\"Cost of Data Breaches: Virtual v. Kaspersky Lab\" width=\"300\" height=\"124\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reason for this increased cost is an increase in the use of virtualized <a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/cloud-platforms\/glossary\/#\" target=\"_blank\">infrastructure<\/a> for so-called \u201cmission critical\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/cloud-platforms\/glossary\/#application\" target=\"_blank\">applications<\/a> and a general lack of understanding when it comes to security in virtualized environments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virtualized Infrastructure is More Popular Than Ever<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing virtual is not a trend anymore, but a business practice,\u201d says the report, which found that <strong>62 percent<\/strong> of respondents claimed that their company was using virtualization in some form. The percentage is even higher amongst large enterprises\u2014some <strong>72 percent<\/strong> of respondents in companies with over 1500 employees reported that their company uses virtualized infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Improper Security Increases Cost<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the widespread adoption of virtualized infrastructure, many respondents did not take proper care in securing virtualized environments.<\/p>\n<p>Kaspersky Lab found that 34 percent of respondents were not using security services designed for virtualized environments\u00a0and were not aware of the difference between these specialized services and traditional, on-premise servers.
