Solutions Review is happy to announce the first update to our Cloud Platforms-as-a-Service (PaaS) Comparison Matrix report!<\/p>\n

In this update, we’ve added two new PaaS solutions: ActiveState’s Stackato, and Apprenda to the Matrix, bringing the total solutions listed to 12. \u00a0AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Azure, \u00a0Appfog, dotCloud, Engine Yard, Google App Engine, Bluemix, Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, and Heroku were already featured on the report, but have been updated to cover any changes in support.<\/p>\n

In the past decade, the enterprise has undergone explosive growth in mobility and data. The old, insular model for developing ‘in-house’ is showing its age\u2014in many cases on-premise IT simply can’t keep up. For the last decade, cloud computing has been gaining traction, and now, it’s finally set to surpass on-premise solutions in IT spending.<\/p>\n

For some time, enterprise cloud adoption was primarily focused on software as a service (SaaS<\/a>) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS<\/a>) offerings, but lately there’s been an increasing call for enterprise adoption of the middle sibling in the cloud family: platform as a service (PaaS).<\/p>\n

In the PaaS model of cloud computing, a vendor provides the user with the hardware and software tools necessary to create, deploy, and manage applications at scale, via the internet, as a service.This eliminates the complexity and cost of buying, configuring, and managing the hardware and software needed for on-premise application development\u00a0and reduces time-to-value compared to IaaS by greatly simplifying configuration and deployment.<\/p>\n
