The long awaited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gartner<\/a> Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) was released in late October, and provides a rundown of the top ECM vendors, and how their products compare head-to-head within the quadrant. The report which places vendors in one of four quadrants including Leaders, Visionaries, Challengers and the Niche Player.\u00a0 Enterprise content management is gaining momentum as a data solution that can help enterprises take control of their content. This category is subject to a rapidly changing landscape, and Gartner recognizes the shifts in this market that will affect clients strongly. To be included in the report, there are six specific criteria vendors must meet. Gartner explains:<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"a1192192779\" class=\"annotate\">&#8220;To appear in this Magic Quadrant, vendors had to meet Gartner&#8217;s criteria for revenue, geographic presence, essential functional components, analytics\/BI, packaged apps, integration and extensions, and proof of use in production scenarios.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"widget\"><div class=\"aside-card\">\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><a class=\"speedbump-2\" href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/business-process-management\/free-bpm-buyers-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1682\" src=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/business-process-management\/files\/2019\/02\/bpm-speedbump.jpg\" alt=\"Download Link to BPM Buyers Guide\" width=\"800\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<p><span id=\"a1192192779\" class=\"annotate\">Regarding r<\/span><span id=\"a-675297046\" class=\"annotate\">evenue, t<\/span><span id=\"a1529179637\" class=\"annotate\">he <\/span><b><\/b><span id=\"a-2085133195\" class=\"annotate\">vendor must have at least $15 million USD in total revenue in 2015 derived from ECM software, with at least 5% ($750,000) of that revenue derived from cloud-based content management services, an indicator of how important cloud computing has become to ECM product capabilities.Total ECM software revenue is comprised of,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>l<\/span><span id=\"a214322291\" class=\"annotate\">icense revenue, c<\/span><span id=\"a-2121209751\" class=\"annotate\">loud service revenue, s<\/span><span id=\"a-1338572371\" class=\"annotate\">ubscription revenue and t<\/span><span id=\"a1413639621\" class=\"annotate\">echnical support and maintenance revenue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/content-management\/content-management-buyers-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[Compare the Top 24\u00a0Enterprise Content Management Providers with the 2016 Content Management\u00a0Buyer&#8217;s Guide. Download Here.]<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Changes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"a-683137773\" class=\"annotate\">The number of vendors included has dropped from 20 in 2015 to 15, primarily due to changes to the inclusion criteria. Gartner\u00a0made these changes to reflect the dynamics of a mature market that is adapting to a range of internal and external drivers.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"a-1458076729\" class=\"annotate\">The following vendors have been dropped since last your&#8217;s MQ:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullets-yes\">\n<li><b><span id=\"a236530417\" class=\"annotate\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fabasoft.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fabasoft<\/a>, <span id=\"a-2027519582\" class=\"annotate\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uplandsoftware.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Upland Software<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span id=\"a1488327659\" class=\"annotate\"><a href=\"https:\/\/siav.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Siav<\/a>. <\/span><\/b><span id=\"a1488327659\" class=\"annotate\">Gartner explains that these\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"a-1310823686\" class=\"annotate\">vendors did not meet Gartner&#8217;s new criteria requiring at least 10% of a vendor&#8217;s revenue in this market to come from outside its main region, and delivery of packaged applications to three or more vertical markets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span id=\"a1213365127\" class=\"annotate\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.software-innovation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Software Innovation<\/a>, <\/span><\/b><span id=\"a1213365127\" class=\"annotate\">d<\/span><span id=\"a-642336253\" class=\"annotate\">ue to merger and acquisition with Tieto the vendor did not partake in the MQ evaluation, and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/Systemware.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span id=\"a1159338220\" class=\"annotate\">Systemware<\/span><\/b><\/a><span id=\"a1159338220\" class=\"annotate\">\u00a0who<\/span><span id=\"a1160977952\" class=\"annotate\">\u00a0was ineligible for inclusion.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Niche Players<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2016, Vendor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laserfiche.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laserfiche<\/a> hover slightly over the line of Niche and Challengers quadrant, leaving only a slight push in ability to execute to make the challenger&#8217;s cut. Gartner explains it&#8217;s on-the-fence stance:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Despite improvements, the technical support offered by smaller Laserfiche resellers is not always to the satisfaction of their clients. Customers should look for Laserfiche Gold resellers and Laserfiche certified partners with demonstrable product knowledge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Niche players are plentiful in this year&#8217;s quadrant described as, \u201cNiche Players typically focus on specific categories of ECM technology (such as transactional content management technology), midmarket buyers, or supplements to the offerings of business application or &#8220;stack&#8221; providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Visionaries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gartner\u2019s guide describes Visionaries: \u201cVisionaries typically show a strong understanding of the market and anticipate shifting market forces. They may lead efforts relating to standards, new technologies or alternative delivery models, but they have less Ability to Execute than Leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Visionaries are typically smaller companies but have a very good awareness of how the market will evolve. Gartner uses \u201cmarket understanding\u201d as one of the evaluation criteria in positioning a\u00a0ECM\u00a0vendor\u2019s completeness of vision, along with offering product strategy, and innovation. Vendor,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.m-files.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> M-Files<\/a> <span id=\"a635733955\" class=\"annotate\">which is <\/span><span id=\"a-1782135499\" class=\"annotate\">based in Tampere, Finland<\/span> is noted for M-Files&#8217; native mobile app which lets users access documents offline, and was complimented for its support features like the ability to scan directly from tablet or mobile phone, inclusion of electronic signatures, and its reviewing and approving capabilities. M-Files is the only vendor in this year&#8217;s Visionary MQ.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Challengers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Challengers are characterized as\u00a0not\u00a0possessing all of the essential functional components of ECM software as the Leaders do, and also for the tendency to leverage third party\u00a0partnerships to fill out their offerings.
