\u201cIn the modern, \u2018what it is vs. where it\u2019s stored\u2019 approach, any information can \u2018show up\u2019 in multiple \u2018places\u2019 based on the context without duplication of content,\u201d according to the white paper. \u201cThese places aren\u2019t fixed, they\u2019re dynamic. A single, unique contract can show up in a search with other customer-related information for sales also shows up with pending legal contracts, independent of customer, for the legal department.\u201d<\/p>\n
Plus, the new approach is objective, meaning a contract is a contract regardless of what department it\u2019s for.<\/p>\n
A contract is a contract whether it is in sales or the legal department. And as M-Files reported, metadata will drive this context-aware future.<\/p>\n
\u201cMetadata is the driver of the new modern information management architecture and it enables defining what something is and what it\u2019s related to in an objectively precise and intuitive way,\u201d the white paper reported.<\/p>\n
This new approach to ECM works with core systems such as ERP tools to give a centralized view of an organization\u2019s information.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new approach to information management can be thought of as a repository-neutral \u2018intelligent metadata layer\u2019 that unifies information across the enterprise based on context, not on the system or folder in which it is stored,\u201d according to M-Files. \u201cThis new methodology allows content and data to remain in place, undisturbed, so that users of existing system can continue to work uninterrupted, while also allowing information to be enriched for evolving needs and new use cases.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new approach combines the following three things:<\/p>\n

- Repository-neutral<\/li>\n
- Intelligent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
