MemSQL has announced the release of a new version of its database solution that is highlighted by a free tier, performance enhancements and simplified cluster monitoring. The free version of MemSQL 6.7 provides full product capabilities for anyone to use in production, up to a limit of 128GB of RAM capacity, with unlimited disk/SSD usage. Companies looking for ticket-based support and guidance or require more than the allocated memory can upgrade to the Enterprise license at any time.

MemSQL can ingest and transform millions of events per day while also analyzing billions of rows of data using standard SQL. The tool can be deployed on-prem, in the cloud via Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure, or as a service including drop-in compatibility with existing middleware, integration, and BI software.

The new monitoring tool is called MemSQL Studio, and it gives users a simpler way to visualize the health of MemSQL clusters across resources, events and queries. Other improvements include command line tooling and cloud formation templates for simplifying automate cluster deployments and configuration. The product also features faster Star Join Queries, with some, according to the company, speeding up by as much as 100 times.

In a statement to Solutions Review, the company’s Chief Architect Adam Prout said: “The big news is the MemSQL free tier, which will enable customers to develop complex applications on our platform at no cost. But almost more importantly, with MemSQL 6.7 we also improved performance on our star joins up to 100x from our previous version. The technological advancements we made for this release show that we’re pushing the limits so customers get the highest value possible from their technology.”

This new version comes on the heels of the company’s July product update that saw it add faster queries and new automated workload optimization features.
