Analyst house Gartner, Inc. has officially announced<\/a> the winners of its 2018 Peer Insights Customer Choice Awards for Operational Database Management Systems<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>According to Gartner, the Customer Choice Awards are a ranking of vendors by \u201cverified end-user professionals\u201d on the company\u2019s Peer Insights website, a peer review site in the mold of G2Crowd, Capterra, and TrustRadius. Recognition is given to a maximum of seven vendors in the marketplace. The awards take into account both the number of end-user reviews, and the overall user ratings.<\/p>\n

Awards are given based on several criteria. The vendor must have at least 50 published reviews in the market guide during the submission period and must pass Gartner’s validation, conflict of interest and moderation process. Additionally, any solution provider must have a at least one tool designated by Gartner’s analysts as relevant in the space. In markets where more than seven vendors meet the thresholds, those with the highest number of approved ratings are named winners.<\/p>\n

Peer Insights Customer Choice Awards are designed to “help IT professionals make better purchase decisions by leveraging the knowledge and feedback by fellow verified end users” according to Gartner’s executive VP of Products and Services Ken Davis. He adds: “We work hard to ensure that all of the reviews are submitted by an IT professional or business user who has had experience purchasing, implementing and\/or using the enterprise solution they are reviewing \u2014 free from conflicts of interest.”<\/p>\n

Amazon Web Services and Microsoft are the top scorers<\/strong><\/p>\n

AWS and Microsoft shared a score of 4.4, though the latter received considerably more buzz with 231 verified reviews. AWS was also the top-scoring vendor in Gartner’s Customer Choice Awards for Data Management Solutions for Analytics<\/a>. Microsoft impressed its users to the tune of 103 5-star ratings and 118 4-star reviews. Most of the Microsoft reviewers (195) were recorded as using the Azure SQL Database, and the product didn’t have any 1 or 2-star ratings.<\/p>\n

MongoDB and Oracle are truly honorable mentions<\/strong><\/p>\n

MongoDB and Oracle had a whopping 591 verified reviews combined, and the two-most of any providers listed by Gartner. MongoDB had 433 total by itself, and three main industry use cases are services, finance, and manufacturing. Its database product enjoyed 156 5-star ratings. The Oracle Database garnered 197 reviews, and the vast majority of its reviews came from those with job titles in infrastructure and operations (55), as well as enterprise architecture (40) and data and analytics (38).<\/p>\n
