Data protection and security provider Quest Software has acquired erwin, Inc. according to a press release<\/a> on the company’s website. The addition of erwin will help to strengthen Quest Software’s data toolset by adding new capabilities to drive data initiatives and the deployment of modern applications while ensuring regulatory compliance. The merger will also help customers by providing infrastructure to manage and govern enterprise data.<\/p>\n

erwin offers a unified software platform for combining data governance, enterprise architecture, business process, and data modeling. The product is delivered as a managed service that allows users to discover and harvest data, as well as structure and deploy data sources by connecting physical metadata to specific business terms and definitions. erwin imports metadata from data integration tools, as well as cloud-based platforms, and can evaluate complex lineages across systems and use cases.<\/p>\n

Quest Software’s acquisition of erwin means that it can now offer crucial and emerging data management technologies in several categories. erwin Data Modeler streamlines big data application development by drawing on multiple data sources while metadata management features coming from the erwin Data Intelligence Suite help to locate and classify data. In a media statement about the news, Quest Software CEO Patrick Nicholas said “Together, Quest and erwin will continue to deliver database tools aimed at helping companies know their data, alleviating concerns about where and how their data is used. Quest was already dominant in database tooling and performance monitoring, and now by combining with erwin\u2019s industry-leading data modeling, data intelligence, and Evolve products, this acquisition further establishes Quest as a major player in the enterprise data management market end-to-end.”<\/p>\n

erwin will join Quest’s Information Systems and Management business unit, which contains the Database Management, Data Protection, and Unified Endpoint Management Solutions. The transaction closed on December 31, 2020.<\/p>\n
