In a new Seagate-sponsored whitepaper entitled <em>Data Age 2025: The Evolution of Data to Life-Critical Don&#8217;t Focus on Big Data; Focus on the Data That&#8217;s Big<\/em>, the analyst firm makes the case that data collection, management and analysis will be the driving force behind nearly all human activity in the next decade. 2016 saw 16 zettabytes of data created as a result of automation, accounting for roughly 30 percent of enterprise data creation. IDC believes this number will double in the next 8 years and account for 60 percent of data creation by 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The report outlines\u00a0the key trends that will make data infinitely more valuable during this period:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Proliferation in mobile and real-time data:<\/strong>\u00a0 By 2025, more than a quarter of data created in the global &#8216;datasphere&#8217; will be real time in nature, and real-time IoT data will make up more than 95% of this<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Artificial Intelligence will be the new normal:<\/strong>\u00a0The flood of data enables a new set of technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence \u2014 collectively known as cognitive systems \u2014 to turn data analysis from an uncommon and retrospective practice into a proactive driver of strategic decision and action<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Security grows even more important:<\/strong>\u00a0All this data from new sources open up new vulnerabilities to private and sensitive information. There is a significant gap between the amount of data being produced today that requires security and the amount of data that is actually being secured, and this gap will widen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The report explains: &#8220;While we as consumers will enjoy the benefits of a digital existence, enterprises around the globe will be embracing new and unique business opportunities, powered by this wealth of data and the insight it provides. Extracting and delivering simplicity and convenience from the complexity of many billions of bytes \u2013 be it through robotics, 3D printing, or some other yet-to-come technological innovation \u2013 will be the order of the day.
