HPE Acquires Zerto to Further Expand HPE GreenLakeHewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the cloud data management and data protection solution provider, Zerto. This transaction is valued at $374 million and expands HPE GreenLake. The acquisition enables HPE Storage to continue delivering on its shift to a cloud-native, software-defined data services business. The addition of Zerto will accelerate HPE’s R&D talent roadmap and simplify cloud data management and protection for customers’ edge-to-cloud strategy.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is an industrial technology company with a portfolio that includes cloud, data centers, and workplace applications, among others. The vendor also offers an advanced intelligent AIOps data platform based on InfoSight. HPE’s storage portfolio consists of HPE Primera, Nimble Storage, 3PAR, and XP series. Nimble Storage is positioned as a midrange storage array, whereas the HPE Primera product line is a high-end storage array targeting Tier 1 mission-critical workloads. HPE recently added support for NVMe media and peer persistence on HPE Primera, as well as SCM support on Nimble Storage.

Zerto offers an IT Resilience Platform, which combines backup, disaster recovery, and cloud mobility into one converged solution. Through an enterprise scale, the provider’s software platform delivers continuous availability, which minimizes downtime. Additionally, IT Resilience simplifies workload mobility to freely protect, recover, and move applications across hybrid and multi-clouds. Users can replace their legacy solutions through Zerto’s single platform. Zerto also powers resiliency offerings for Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, and AWS.

In a press statement, Tom Black, Senior Vice President and General Manager of HPE Storage, said, “with data underpinning digital transformation, customers must manage, protect, and mobilize their data. Customers continue to face significant issues managing data complexity across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Zerto further positions HPE to help solve these customer challenges and become the leader in data management and protection through HPE GreenLake cloud services.”

HPE is acquiring Zerto for $374 million in cash. The transaction is projected to contribute over $130 million in run-rate revenue at software gross margins. An estimated one-third of the revenue is expected to contribute to HPE’s aaS Annualized Revenue Run-Rate (ARR). Additionally, Zerto’s management team is joining the HPE family after the transaction closes, which is predicted to occur in the fourth quarter of HPE’s fiscal year 2021.
