Recently, Cambridge MA-based analyst house Forrester Research released the latest iteration of its flagship Forrester Wave report; this report is entitled “Endpoint Security Software As A Service, Q2 2021.”

Researchers Chris Sherman, Merritt Maxim, Allie Mellen, Shannon Fish, and Peggy Dostie created a 24-criterion report analyzing the market. Through these criteria, they identify the 12 most significant vendors. These vendors include Bitdefender, BlackBerry, Cisco, CrowdStrike, McAfee, Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, SentinelOne, Sophos, Symantec, Trend Micro, and VMware. 

The Wave Report describes Forrester’s findings concerning how each provider meets its researchers’ evaluation criteria. Thus, with this information, Forrester’s researchers place each vendor on their Wave; the graph, in turn, positions each vendor as a Leader, Strong Performer, Contender, or Challenger in relation to one another.

Key Capabilities in Endpoint Security Software As A Service

The researchers of the Forrester Wave: Endpoint Security Software As A Service, Q2 2021 must provide “must balance effective threat prevention with automatic and precise threat detection.” Additionally, they advise all enterprise buyers to select a solution that supports extended detection and response (XDR) capabilities. Moreover, seekers should select a solution that is current with current threat trends. 

5 Leaders In the Report

Five vendors receive the title of Leader in the report: CrowdStrike, Trend Micro, Microsoft, VMware, and Palo Alto Networks. Meanwhile, Bitdefender, Symantec, SentinelOne, Cisco, Sophos, and McAfee are all Strong Performers. Blackberry is the only Contender, with no Challengers in the report. 

CrowdStrike is praised for its endpoint security with cloud-native architecture. Microsoft is lauded for its balance between security and user experience. Trend Micro’s emphasis on detection receives special mention, as does Palo Alto Networks’ integration with XDR. Finally, VMware’s work to reduce friction in IT security and operations garners praise.
