According to a report by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/12\/14\/intel-tpg-in-talks-to-sell-mcafee-to-thoma-bravo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CNBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who broke the story on the potentially market-shaking deal, the principal players are already in talks. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><div class=\"widget\"><div class=\"aside-card\">\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/carbon-black-gartner-magic-quadrant-for-endpoint-protection-platforms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1682\" src=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/files\/2019\/01\/2018-carbon-black-gartner-speedbump.jpg\" alt=\"Download Link to Gartner 2018 Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms\" width=\"800\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TPG Capital currently owns 51% of McAfee, which they acquired from hardware manufacturer Intel in 2016 for $4.2 billion. Intel acquired McAfee in 2010 for $7.6 billion. In 2017, Thoma Bravo acquired a minority stake in the solution provider. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/12\/14\/intel-tpg-in-talks-to-sell-mcafee-to-thoma-bravo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CNBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the deal would value McAfee significantly more than their 2016 valuation of $4.2 billion. Rumors speculated Thoma Bravo seriously considered acquiring endpoint security competitor Symantec in November. Symantec currently trades as a\u00a0public company, and an acquisition would take them private. However, sources close the matter said Thoma Bravo wouldn\u2019t continue pursuing of Symantec if the deal for ownership of McAfee went through. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As of time of writing, no deal with TPG, Intel, and Thoma Bravo comes with a guarantee; any number of factors may result in one or all of the parties walking away. None of the principal actors\u2014McAfee, Symantec, TPG, and Intel\u2014has given a direct statement on the potential deal. Thoma Bravo did not respond to requests for comment. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">McAfee acquired cloud monitoring provider Skyhigh Networks in January of 2018 and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/mcafee-officially-acquires-tunnelbear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">VPN provider Tunnelbear<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in March. Technology research firm Gartner named McAfee a Visionary in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/gartners-2018-magic-quadrant-for-endpoint-protection-platforms-epp-whats-changed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2018 Endpoint Protection Platform Magic Quadrant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> report. They were also a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/the-7-gartner-peer-insights-customers-choice-vendors-for-endpoint-security-and-protection-software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2018 Gartner Peer Insights Customers\u2019 Choice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for Endpoint Security and Protection Software.
