Put another way, can businesses\u2014financial or otherwise\u2014market themselves in part on their cybersecurity policies and strengthens?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>The Argument Against A Competitive Advantage \u00a0\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mr. Shevlin puts forth the idea of cybersecurity as a competitive advantage to refute it as a myth. He argues customers expect their financial institutions to demonstrate strong cybersecurity as a prerequisite for their patronage. Concisely, consumers consider cybersecurity a necessary feature rather than a perk. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indeed, IAM vendor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pingidentity.com\/en\/company\/press-releases-folder\/2018\/global-survey-ping-identity-shows-consumers-abandoning-brands-after-data-breaches.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ping Identity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> found well over 75% of consumers won\u2019t digitally interact with brands after they suffer a breach. 36% would abandon a brand altogether. Their research indicates customers do expect cybersecurity to some degree. Certainly, a breach poses a significant danger to your word-of-mouth. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moreover, Mr. Shevlin points out that boasting about your enterprise\u2019s cybersecurity can, in fact, backfire. No cybersecurity policy or endpoint security can prevent 100% of all penetrative cyber attacks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While enterprises adopt detection and response cybersecurity with capabilities like EDR, consumers still hold onto a preventative cybersecurity mindset. Marketing your endpoint security as a competitive advantage, then reporting a breach (however minor) could create even worse fallout with your consumers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition, Shevlin points out only the largest enterprises possess the potential for truly great cybersecurity&#8230;and even then they still struggle. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>The Argument For A Competitive Advantage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We here at Solutions Review certainly find Mr. Shevlin\u2019s argument compelling; certainly, his argument about the potential of a backlash carries real weight. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yet simultaneously, we do wonder whether enterprises could market their endpoint security or general cybersecurity as a competitive advantage. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even with the research, enterprises continue to struggle in recognizing the need for a next-generation cybersecurity solution, especially in <a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/5-critical-next-gen-endpoint-security-capabilities-for-businesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endpoint security<\/a>. Instead, they maintain their weaker but more familiar legacy solutions to their detriment. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This could mean innovating your cybersecurity policy, then carefully choosing your marketing strategy, could help transform it into a competitive advantage. Perhaps, by implementing stronger cybersecurity, you can attract consumers disillusioned with breached competitors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can do this by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selecting and deploying next-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/endpoint-security\/enterprise-endpoint-security-and-threat-hunting-the-basics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endpoint security<\/a> which matches with your enterprise\u2019s use case. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Staying abreast of new cyber threats with multiple threat intelligence feeds. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Having a clear, strong incident response plan, which your enterprise as a whole understands. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Having a fully staffed security operations center.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Outlining clearly to consumers what exactly you do to keep their data privacy safe (within reason so as not to give hackers too much information).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specifying what key endpoint security capabilities do to maintain security. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Never making promises about cybersecurity you cannot fulfill.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>How To Approach the Problem<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We stress that your enterprise must exercise caution if you intend to make cybersecurity a competitive advantage; Mr. Shevlin\u2019s argument should consistently guide your actions in this regard. Consider this article\u2014an opinion piece\u2014as a counterpoint to his piece rather than a clear set of best practices to follow. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If the idea appeals to you, you should consult with your IT security and marketing teams to determine how you wish to portray yourself in a digital marketplace consistently imperiled. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Don\u2019t make the mistake of marketing yourself as an unsinkable ship.
