ERPScan, one of the most respected and credible business application cybersecurity provider, released their \u201cERPScan Data Breach Report 2017<\/a>\u201d dedicated to the analysis of major security attacks in various industries last year. The report includes specified data on different industries from Media and Entertainment to Healthcare and Higher Education.<\/p>\n

ERPScan\u2019s mission is to provide smart solutions to assess and protect ERP systems along with business-critical applications from both cyber-attacks and internal fraud. The data breach report attempts to grasp the correlation between attack types, industries, and targeted assets.<\/p>\n

Based on more than 200 incidents, the report also aims at showing the specifics of cyber-endangered industries and their business applications system. Keep in mind, researchers from ERPScan gathered only public breaches related to particular companies for this report.<\/p>\n

According to report results, companies in the Media sphere were the most attacked among all spheres of activity in 2017. The report also revealed that the UK became the biggest victim of Healthcare data breaches, and loopholes in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Point of Sale (POS) systems were a common cause of Espionage attacks in the Retail sector.<\/p>\n

The ERPScan research team analyzed each incident according to the type of threat:\u00a0Espionage, Sabotage or Fraud \u2013 and attack technique. If publically available, it was possible for researchers to estimate average losses. Analysts estimated Espionage attacks, with 14 million user accounts affected in an average, and a common Sabotage that led to some two-day downtime.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for takeaways, we shouldn\u2019t underestimate the attention of the hackers to such topics as cryptocurrency and Machine Learning. They are supposed to continue being at risk. What is more, we assume that the number of target attacks on companies with the use of industry systems and specific business applications like ERP, EMR and CRM, will also grow in the future. So, now is the best time to think of cybersecurity.\u201d\u00a0says\u00a0Alice Jossan<\/span>, Cybersecurity Analyst at ERPScan.<\/a><\/p>\n

Among the affected companies in 2017 were such world-known leaders as HBO, Equifax, Honda, Apple and McDonald\u2019s. It means that organizations that seem to have enough power and finances to protect themselves are actually vulnerable to cyberattacks.<\/p>\n
