Key Findings in the KuppingerCole Leadership Compass, Privileged Access Management 2020

According to Fisher, the phenomenal growth of the PAM market stems from several factors including the rise in digital transformation, the shift to the cloud, rising cybercrime, and new compliance regulations. These factors have radically changed the demands on the market.

Originally, only administrators received privileged accounts in enterprise IT environments; after all, IT administrators need access to system accounts to support the business. However, changes in business practices and environments resulted in more non-traditional users with privileged accounts. Therefore, enterprises need privileged access management now more than ever.

In the KuppingerCole Leadership Compass for Privileged Access Management 2020, Fisher lists standard features including credential vaulting, password rotation, controlled elevation, and delegation of privileges. Additionally, he lists more advanced capabilities such as privileged user analytics, risk-based session monitoring, and advanced threat protection.

In fact, the report details nine critical capabilities including single sign-on, session recording and monitoring, and just-in-time (JIT) access.
