one identity acquires balabit

Identity Management solutions provider One Identity today announced they have acquired Balabit, a Hungarian Privileged Access Management (PAM) vendor. A Quest Software business, One Identity stated their belief that Balabit’s privileged account analytics and log management solutions maintain the integrity of privileged credentials, reducing the risk of data leaks or breaches.

According to their press release, the acquisition is part of One Identity’s concerted efforts to play a more active role in the PAM field of InfoSec. Through Balabit’s machine-learning privileged analytics, One Identity aims to provide better identification of malicious activity on privileged accounts and stronger protections against insider and external threats; in other words, they are aiming to expand their solutions portfolio to offer more complete IAM protections while simultaneously taking advantage of Balabit’s global partnerships. One Identity has announced that Balabit’s session management capabilities have already been integrated into the recent One Identity Safeguard solution.

“Today’s announcement reinforces One Identity’s continued commitment to investing in technology and the business in order to drive innovation, and creates more value for our customers and partners,” stated One Identity President John Milburn.

“We’re excited to join the One Identity family and add our technology and expertise to One Identity’s rapidly growing portfolio of IAM solutions. With today’s announcement, Balabit’s customers, prospects and partners will be able to enjoy our market-leading PAM tools within the broader stack of first-class PAM and IAM solutions in the One Identity portfolio,” added Zoltan Gyorko, CEO of Balabit.

Jackson Shaw, senior director of product management at One Identity, noted that “the pairing of our technologies will enable our customers to know what entitlements their employees and privileged users have, and what they are doing with those entitlements.”

One Identity’s formal entry into the PAM market makes sense, as an estimated 80% of security breaches involve privileged credentials. The terms of the transaction have not yet been disclosed; it is yet unclear if Balabit will continue to operate as a semi-independent organization or if it will be folded into One Identity.
