Additionally, the technology research giant chose to retire the companion \u201cCritical Capabilities\u201d report. However, Gartner did not release an accompanying press release about why it made such a consequential decision. This leads us to speculation as to the reasons why.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-size: 1em\"><div class=\"widget\"><div class=\"aside-card\">\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><a class=\"iam-inject\" href=\"https:\/\/suggestionengine.solutionsreview.com\/buyer\/signup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1682\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/identity-management\/files\/2021\/02\/Identity_Suggestion_Engine_Horiz_800.gif\" alt=\"IAM Solution Suggestion Engine\" width=\"800\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Why Did Gartner Retire the IGA Magic Quadrant?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It may benefit us to look at the reasons Gartner chooses to retire Magic Quadrant reports. According to its own <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/research\/methodologies\/magic-quadrants-research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">research methodology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the Magic Quadrant reports best capture markets in the midst of growth; they look to major innovations and changes in industry dynamics to inform the reports. However, such emphasis means that the MQ reports do not easily capture mature markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other factors in choosing to retire MQ reports may include slow market growth rates, little differentiation between vendors, and a low number of new entrants into the market.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In their decision to retire the IGA Magic Quadrant, the market\u2019s maturity may have influenced Gartner. In fact, they noted the maturity of the market in our analysis of the last <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/identity-management\/whats-changed-2019-gartner-magic-quadrant-for-identity-governance-and-administration-iga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IGA MQ<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> report. Also, they noted the same maturity in the companion <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/solutionsreview.com\/identity-management\/key-findings-the-gartner-2019-critical-capabilities-for-identity-governance-and-administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Critical Capabilities<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interestingly, Gartner helped to codify and popularize the IGA market in 2013 when it first created an MQ report around it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With that established, let\u2019s answer other pressing questions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Why Hasn\u2019t Gartner Released a Statement?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We can think of a few reasons why Gartner may choose to hold on making a statement. First, the coronavirus outbreak continues to take up a lot of national and global attention; releasing a statement now would probably see it buried in the flood of other conversations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Second, Gartner may want to wait until they release a 2020 IGA Market Guide before they speak to why they chose to retire the IGA Magic Quadrant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Third, they may also wait until the release of the Access Management Magic Quadrant before they make any official announcement. Gartner chose to fold its previous IDaaS Magic Quadrant into its Access Management MQ report and may do so for IGA as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We will continue to report on this as news develops.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Will They Ever Update or Revive the IGA Magic Quadrant?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Probably not anytime in the near future. After that, it\u2019s beyond our ability to speculate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Will Gartner Release a Market Guide for IGA?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Probably. Market Guides allow Gartner to discuss and explore more mature markets, and they have precedent to do so here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Does This Mean the End of Identity Governance and Administration?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Absolutely not. Magic Quadrants report on market trends and innovations. They don\u2019t prove or disprove the vitality of a particular technology market.
