How Windows 10 is Changing Enterprise Mobility

Windows 10 has been out for a while now and PC users seem to be used to it by now. It’s more than just a new interface for us to move around on and more than just a better version of Windows 8. There are elements of Windows 10 that users have yet to explore because they are not the kinds of things people casually stumble into, but they do wonders for the enterprise especially enterprise mobility.

The main goal of any operating system that makes big framework and aesthetic changes is to restructure how people use the technology. If you think about it, the most powerful phone or computer is useless without a solid OS. When it comes to the enterprise, the goal of Windows 10 is to change the way people work. Microsoft has been utilizing their engineering to build an OS that transcends the desktop into mobile devices. Not only is Windows 10 aiming to condense the usability by having the same OS on all devices, but they are looking to have users access their single profile or “golden desktop” across all devices regardless of what they are.

An article presented by AirWatch for EnterprsieAppsTech outlines a few of the ways Windows 10 is restructuring the way enterprises are conducting mobile device management. I spoke to Mark Margevicius, Head of Enterprise Consumer Strategy at VMware back in October about the impact of Windows 10 on enterprise mobility and VMware and AirWatch were both excited to see what it would bring and still feel that way.

“With EMM-based management capabilities of Windows 10, IT can now manage the entire lifecycle of Win32 and universal applications over the air. Admins no longer need dedicated products to manage and distribute Win32 and mobile applications, and end users get a single point of access to the best apps they need to work anytime, anywhere and on any device.”

“Windows 10 helps organisations eliminate these security concerns on laptops, desktops and phones via the introduction of Device Guard and Health Attestation. Through Device Guard, Windows 10 provides hardware and software controls that secures a device at the kernel layer. This eliminates most threat vectors and prevents any unauthorised or malicious applications from running on the device.”

This notion of unifying the user interface and making is much easier for employees to movie from their desktops to their mobile devices with and use the same profile with all of their files and tabs is huge. It’s something that we’ve always wanted but haven’t really grasped just yet. This mindset will allow work lives to be more flexible and productive as it won’t take as long to complete tasks.
