\"Gartner<\/a>A recent web seminar which was outlined by Information Management highlights 5 steps and best practices to better Mobile Device Management in the enterprise which was presented by Gartner VP and Analyst Phil Redman and Research Director Bryan Taylor. They point out that as enterprise mobile adoption continues to rise the strategy for implementation and management has remained stagnant and dated.<\/p>\n

Redman and Taylor suggested that plans based around standardization are still being implemented even as enterprises continue to increase device diversity with both in-house devices and Bring Your Own Device programs. This conflict between planning and actual implementation lead to mobility breakdowns, help desk struggles and greater security risks.<\/p>\n

Information Management outlined 5 steps that Redman and Taylor suggest for enterprises to take which include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Create User Profiles and Policy: including user types, security levels and content.<\/li>\n
  2. Choose Device Types and Locations: of the four major enterprise mobile options \u2013 iOS, Android, Windows and RIM \u2013 the analysts noted about half were on Apple\u2019s iOS. However, factors such as the rise in apps for Android are expected to boost use of devices supporting that operating system.<\/li>\n
  3. Pick Delivery Method: deployed or offered as-a-service, or building out an on-premise environment.<\/li>\n
  4. Assess Mobile Device Management Vendors: review competing features and ensure their capabilities with email, SMS, Web browsing and PIN security.<\/li>\n
  5. Communicate to the End Users: don\u2019t roll mobility out for users to figure it out on their own. Factor in a three-to-four month period for communication on aspects such as device preferences and work expectations, and follow up with reporting and their feedback after implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
